Illinois has suffered another tough loss on the recruiting trail early in the week.

Monday morning, 3-star offensive lineman Jakai Clark announced that he would be flipping his commitment from Illinois to Miami. He sent out a tweet to address his decision.

“Thank you to Illinois and their coaching staff and their fans for supporting from the jump but I have to do what is best for me and my family,” Clark said. “With that being said I will be flipping my commitment from the University of Illinois to the University of Miami!”

Clark’s decommitment gives Illinois just 10 recruits in its 2019 class. The Illini currently rank 13th in the B1G and 73rd nationally.

The Early Signing Period will begin on Dec. 19 and run through Dec. 21, but Lovie Smith may not have many prospects to sign at that time.

Illinois’ 10-commit total is the second-fewest in the B1G, in front of only Maryland, which has eight.
