Matt Canada on Maryland's loss to Temple: I did a bad job
Matt Canada didn’t make any excuses after Maryland’s 35-14 loss to Temple on Saturday afternoon. Instead, the interim head coach repeatedly took the blame for the poor performance.
The Terrapins were 2-0 headed into Saturday’s matchup against Temple, who had been winless on the year. It was the home opener for Maryland and the stage was set for Canada and his crew to open the season a perfect 3-0 before entering B1G play.
But the Terps couldn’t get anything going offensively and lost in blowout fashion to the Owls.
After the game, Canada could’ve made plenty of excuses or placed the blame elsewhere. Instead, he put it on himself.

I counted 19 times in less than 15 minutes that Maryland interim coach Matt Canada blamed himself in some form or fashion for yesterday’s loss to Temple. There are some head coaches that go full careers without doing that so often.

“Everything we did was bad,” Canada said. “I called every play, so I should’ve called a whole bunch of different ones cause they didn’t work. Ultimately, that’s it. I did a bad job.”
Maryland was a two-touchdown favorite heading into Saturday’s matchup, but it just couldn’t get any momentum against Temple.
“It falls directly on me,” Canada said. “It’s my job and we didn’t get it done.”
Canada continued to say that he believed the team played hard but the play-calling wasn’t good enough. Again, he took full responsibility.
“That’s on me,” he said.
Maryland enters B1G play next Saturday against Minnesota.
