Maryland’s defense will be without one defender when the season starts.

Durell Nchami is a sophomore linebacker that saw action with the Terrapins as a freshman. He recorded 15 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and a sack in his first season, and Nchami was likely due for an increased role in 2019.

Unfortunately, his season is over before the first regular-season game. Head coach Mike Locksley announced Tuesday evening that Nchami will miss all of 2019 after tearing his ACL in Saturday’s scrimmage.

Don Markus with The Baltimore Sun shared the announcement:

Hopefully, Maryland can still improve on a defense that allowed 28.7 points per game last season. The unit will just have to do so without Nchami.
