The “Scott Frost to Nebraska” rumors seem to be picking up steam with every passing week. But there might be some validity to the speculation.

Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports reported recently that, if asked, Frost would most likely head to Nebraska to become the head coach of the Huskers next season. Dodd didn’t provide a source and didn’t give much explanation, but it’s still an interesting note.

Just that statement has to have Big Red Nation foaming at the mouth.

Frost, a former Nebraska quarterback during the 1997 championship season, currently has UCF sitting at 6-0 and ranked No. 20 nationally. The Knights knocked off Navy 31-21 last Saturday.

With Nebraska at 3-4 on the season and losing a few games in blowout fashion, there’s not much belief that current head coach Mike Riley will retain his post for the 2018 season. And with the university hiring a new athletic director (Bill Moos), it’s highly unlikely Riley survives this rocky season in Lincoln.

Right now, anything tying Nebraska and Frost together is purely speculation. But if Frost is admitting he’d likely take the Nebraska job if offered, it’d be insane that Moos didn’t make a few phone calls down to Orlando.

Moos has said he doesn’t believe in firing a head coach during the season, so any change mid-season is extremely unlikely. But it’ll be interesting to see what Nebraska officials decide to do after Thanksgiving weekend.
