Everyone associated with Ohio State football has been opposed the NCAA’s push for an early signing period for high school recruits.

Ohio State’s athletic director Gene Smith told reporters why he’s against it last week at the B1G Group Meetings. Head coach Urban Meyer has spoken at length, a couple of times, why he doesn’t believe it’s a positive thing.

The points were largely the same for both men: why force a kid to make a decision earlier? Both Smith and Meyer seem to believe it will lead to higher transfer numbers and more mistakes along the recruiting trail.

But Meyer offered another perspective on the matter. It was reported by Ari Wasserman of Cleveland.com. And the Buckeyes head coach has a pretty valid argument.

Our coaches just went through spring practice and I took away every one of their Saturdays for spring practice.

When does a coach get to go watch his daughter play softball?

I want our coaches to go see their families. I want our coaches get reinvigorated, refreshed.

College football has become a 24/7 job, especially for those coaches constantly on the recruiting road. It makes sense that Meyer would want a break for himself and for his staff.

This was just one of Meyer’s stances on the situation, but it is a relatively new point. To read more of Asserman’s story, you can view it on Clevaland.com

Unfortunately for Meyer, his words probably aren’t going to change anything as the early signing period seems to be pretty popular across the sport.
