If there was one thing left for Urban Meyer to accomplish as a recruiter at Ohio State, it was landing the five-star defensive tackle.

The Buckeyes came up short in the Marvin Wilson sweepstakes in February, which led some to wonder what it would take for Ohio State to land a blue-chip defensive tackle.

On Sunday night, the Buckeyes answered that question.

The No. 1 defensive tackle in the country, Taron Vincent, gave his verbal pledge to the Buckeyes:

That news came after a two-day unofficial visit to Columbus over the weekend. The five-star defensive tackle picked Ohio State over Florida State, which was two months after Wilson picked the Seminoles over the Buckeyes.

He’s also the son of former NFL defensive back Troy Vincent, who starred at Wisconsin before his 15-year career in the league.

Vincent, who currently attends IMG Academy (Fla.), is the No. 14 player overall in the 2018 class. His commitment gave the Buckeyes its first five-star recruit of its 2018 class.

But while OSU only has five commitments, all of them are rated in the top 65 in the 247sports composite rankings. Vincent was the first defensive lineman to join the Buckeyes’ 2018 class.

Ohio State is up to No. 2 in the B1G and No. 7 overall in the 247sports class rankings.
