Not many venues in sports rival the allure of Yankee Stadium in New York. It’s a fact not many would argue with, including Rutgers head coach Chris Ash.

To say he’s excited about the opportunity to play a game there is a bit of an understatement.

Rutgers will battle Maryland at Yankee Stadium on Nov. 4, an event that was scheduled back in May 2016. And even though moving the game to New York City was caught with some serious opposition (as reported by NJ.com), Ash knows just how important this is for his program.

During a Yankees home game against the Angels, Ash made multiple media appearances, stating several times the value of playing in Yankee Stadium.

As a football program and a head coach I’m very excited to take our football team into the city and to be able to bring our brand and our product to all the great Rutgers alumni in the city. And it’s going to be a fun event, in a great venue and I’m really excited about it, and our players are, too.

It’s a big deal. We talked about it with recruits, especially with recruits in New York, that they’ll have a chance to come to Yankee Stadium. It’s as good as it gets.

Ash has already made an impact on the recruiting trail in his first season. His 2017 class ranked 43rd nationally and ninth in the B1G. That may not look super impressive but the Knights landed commitments from four-star players Bo Melton, Tyshon Fogg and Micah Clark.

Rutgers is establishing its presence as a factor on the recruiting trail in the B1G and Ash believes this is another opportunity to appeal to prospects on the East Coast.

And one the Ash would like to knock out of the park.
