Rutgers has officially named its team captains for the 2019 season.

The announcement came on Saturday prior to the start of the team’s spring game. Four players have earned the honors, two offensive players and two defensive players.

For the offense, running back Raheem Blackshear and offensive lineman Zach Venesky were named team captains. Linebackers Tyshon Fogg and Tyreek Maddox-Williams earned the honors on defense.

Maddox-Williams and Fogg each had 47 tackles for the Scarlet Knights, ranking eighth on the team. The two combined to make seven tackles for loss, as well.

Rutgers is coming off a 1-11 season, failing to win a B1G game. But there were signs of promise and growth on Saturday during the team’s spring game, particularly on offense.

The 2019 season will mark the fourth year for Chris Ash in Piscataway. The Scarlet Knights open the campaign on Friday, Aug. 30 against UMass.
