The wait is over. Malik Zaire has chosen where he’ll finish his college football career. It won’t be in B1G country.

Late Saturday evening, it was reported that Zaire was headed to Florida after taking several months to make his decision. He chose the Gators over Texas, Wisconsin and North Carolina.

His decision was a bit of a blow for the Badgers, who could’ve benefited from an experienced, dual-threat quarterback. But Wisconsin isn’t the only B1G program that’s effected by Zaire’s decision.

Michigan already had its hands full playing Florida in the first week of the season at AT&T Stadium. But with Zaire potentially at quarterback for the game – a position that was an issue for the Gators last season – the task is even more daunting for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines.

Zaire decided to transfer after Notre Dame finished 4-8 last season. He also lost his starting job to DeShone Kizer and was in a limited role in 2016. Zaire completed just 11-of-23 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown.

The ex-Irish quarterback gained a lot of attention after the 2014 Music City Bowl, completing 12-0f-15 passes for 96 yards and adding 96 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Notre Dame beat LSU 31-28.

Despite Notre Dame’s longstanding rivalry with Michigan – which was recently dissolved because of the Irish’s “move” to the ACC – Zaire hasn’t thrown a pass against the Wolverines yet, but did see limited action in the 2014 game between the two programs.

Zaire has completed 58-of-98 passes in his career for 816 yards and six touchdowns without a single interception. He’s also rushed for 324 yards and a pair of scores. While at Notre Dame, Zaire started in three games.
