A drought that has extended over four decades has come to an end.

On Monday afternoon, the Associated Press released its latest college basketball top 25 rankings, and Rutgers was listed for the first time since the end of the 1978-79 season. The Scarlet Knights crept into the rankings with a 14-4 record, which includes a 5-2 mark in B1G play. Rutgers defeated Indiana 59-50 on Wednesday and Minnesota 64-56 on Sunday.

With Rutgers’ win over Minnesota, head coach Steve Pikiell also notched his 250th career victory.

Four other B1G teams were listed in the top 25 this week, in addition to Rutgers. Michigan State, Maryland, Iowa and Illinois were all included in the most recent poll. Michigan and Ohio State fell outside the rankings. The Wolverines and Buckeyes, as well as Wisconsin, Penn State, Purdue and Indiana all received votes.
