Danny Kanell plays by his own rules. And when he drops his weekly rankings, they will occassionally look a lot different thatn what you’re accustomed to seeing.

On Sunday morning, Kanell revealed his top eight teams through four weeks in the college football season. One of his main criteria for teams to crack his list are playing solid competition. For the teams that haven’t done that yet, well, they don’t make the cut.

Here’s Kanell’s unusual top eight:

The first two teams are pretty standard, but you won’t find many arguing for Auburn and Wisconsin to be No. 3 and No. 4, at least not yet. LSU and Georgia each have quality wins on the resumé, but are at No. 5 and No. 6. Texas and Oregon both have lost one game.

Noticeably missing from the list are Ohio State and Oklahoma, both of which have been consistently ranked inside the top eight of the coaches and AP poll. Kanell’s message to them? “Play someone with a pulse.”

At least Kanell plays by his own rules and admits to it. He doesn’t just accept what others are saying about certain programs. He wants to see it on the field there.
