Following its rout over Northern Illinois last week, Michigan will look to stay perfect Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor where it hosts an upstart Rutgers squad. Earlier in the day, No. 6 Penn State will look to avoid a let down off a big win against Auburn when the Nittany Lions host Villanova. With plenty of betting markets that present dozens of ways to wager, FOX Bet will continue to be a go-to spot for Big Ten bettors this week.

If we’re being honest, both Michigan and Penn State have plenty of games that represent major challenges. For instance, Michigan must deal with Wisconsin next week, while Penn State already has a pair of wins in its pocket against Top 25 competition. This week, however, doesn’t figure to present the toughest of tests. Penn State is nearly a 30-point favorite over Villanova, while Michigan is an 21-point favorite over Rutgers. That said, both the Wolverines and Scarlet Knights come in both 3-0 SU and ATS, so something has to give.

Let’s get set for both matchups with a look at how to bet on all of the action with FOX Bet.

Betting 101 Week 4: How to Bet at FOX Bet

First, let’s check out the states in which FOX Bet is currently available:

  • Michigan
  • New Jersey
  • Pennsylvania
  • Colorado

FOX Bet has emerged as a preferred sports wagering app in the above market thanks to a sharp app with a variety of betting markets, including extensive player and game props.

Backed by the familiar FOX Sports brand and featuring some top personalities such as Howie Long and Terry Bradshaw, the app also receives a boost from its in-game ads and natural product placement during college and pro football telecasts.

New players who sign up this week can take advantage of a number of boosts in addition to a $500 risk-free first bet.

How to Get FOX Bet

  • First, register and grab the FOX Bet app by clicking right here.
  • Following the quick sign up process, make a first deposit by using any of the safe and efficient funding methods.
  • After the deposit is made, place a risk-free bet of up to $500 with the first-real money bet.

The $500 Risk-Free Bet

Before we jump into the Week 4 slate, let’s first talk about the FOX Bet new user promo.

New players can kick off the wagering experience with an opportunity to bet big (up to $500), entirely free of risk. Make a first deposit and wager that amount to lock in the RFB. Bettors are free to deposit wager as little as $10 to grab this incentive, but they can achieve maximum value with $500+ deposits.

If that first bet wins, players will immediately cash in on profits once the wager settles. If it doesn’t, FOX Bet will refund the bet amount in site credit, providing players with an additional opportunities to kick off the wagering experience with a win.

As an example, let’s say that Michigan bettors want to back the Wolverines at -21 to cover against the Scarlet Knights. Standard point spread prices are listed at -110 on each side.

So, if a bettor risks $110 to win $100 ($210 return) at -110 odds, a winning bet will pay that out $100 in profit. A losing bet will return the $110 risked in site credit.

Note: New Jersey bettors cannot wager on in-state schools, so they will not be able to bet on Michigan vs. Rutgers.

Betting Against the Spread at FOX Bet

Let’s quickly cover how to make a spread bet at FOX Bet by using this week’s Rutgers vs. Michigan matchup.

Currently, Michigan is an 21-point favorite against Rutgers in what oddsmakers believe should be a comfortable Wolverines win.

Someone who makes a spread bet on the Wolverines will need them to win by 22 or more points to cover the spread.

Those who take the Scarlet Knights will need an outright win or a loss by 20 points or less to cover the spread.

Similarly, those who back Penn State to cover against Villanova would need a Nittany Lions win of 30+ points.

Making a Moneyline Wager

Of course, bettors can bypass the point spread entirely by placing what is called a moneyline wager.

Here’s the short version of how this bet type works:

Bettors must simply select the winning team in order to win the bet.

The positive of such a wager is that it makes the proposition less complicated. Pick the winning team, win the bet. Pick the loser, lose the bet.

That said, because one team is expected by oddsmakers to win, those who want to back the favorite have to pay extra (in some cases, quite a bit extra) to do it. Those who want take the underdog will receive a payout larger than their wager for taking a team not expected to win.

This week, oddsmakers have installed Michigan At -1600 moneyline odds. A bettor would have to risk $1600 to win $100 on an outright Wolerines victory. Meanwhile, a bettor could also back Rutgers at +900, meaning a $100 bet pays $900.

Making a Parlay Pick

If you’re looking to reduce the cost of backing some big money line favorites or maximize the potential payouts of a ranger, a parlay is worth considering. This multi-bet wager requires all individual bets involved to win. By rule, parlays create longer odds — and better payouts. Of course, the downside is that a parlay bet is harder to hit because multiple things must go right to cash in a victory.

As an example, bettors can take a team like Michigan -21 and and another game, such as Minnesota to cover -31 against Bowling Green in a two-leg parlay that pays +264 odds, meaning a $100 wager turns a $264 profit.

That, however, is just one example. Bettors can use any combination of the point spreads, moneylines, or game totals to build parlays.

Making a Pick for Rutgers vs. Michigan at FOX Bet

Last week felt like a potential letdown spot for Michigan following an emotional prime time victory over Washington the previous week. That didn’t happen. The Wolverines steamrolled the Huskies as a 27.5-point favorite en route to a 63-10 victory.

This week they take on their first Big Ten opponent in Rutgers and are once again a big favorite. Despite going 1-5 ATS against conference opponents a season ago, Michigan is actually a respectable 18-12 ATS at home against Big Ten teams dating back to the 2013 season. However, they are just 5-8 ATS against Big Ten teams when favored by 20+ points during that same span.

With conflicting trends in play, consider this. Since 2015, there have been 20 games played with spreads of 20+ points between undefeated teams who are also perfect ATS. The favorite is 13-7 ATS in those games.

Jim Harbaugh’s team appears ultra-motivated and we don’t expect a letdown in the conference opener.

Pick: Michigan to cover against Rutgers

Making a Pick for Penn State vs. Villanova

Penn State is going to win the game. The Nittany Lions have proven they are legit with Top 25 wins over Wisconsin and Auburn. Villanova represents a far weaker test.

But will Penn State be up to cover such a big number?

James Franklin’s teams are 23-16-2 ATS at home as a favorite and 12-6-1 ATS at home in September. That’s enough for us.
