One former Illini is moving on, but he will not have to travel far for his next destination.

On Friday, ex-Illinois center Jermaine Hamlin announced his next destination. With a note shared on Twitter, Hamlin indicated he will be heading to Eastern Illinois for his next stop.

“First of all, I would like thank the coaches at the University of Illinois for giving me the amazing opportunity to represent their team for the past couple of years,” wrote Hamlin. “I’m excited to announce that I have committed to Coach Simmons and Eastern Illinois University.”

The 6-foot-10 Hamlin originally joined Illinois as a late addition to the 2019 recruiting class. He was an in-state prospect out of Lincoln, Illinois.

Once on campus, Hamlin was never able to carve out a significant role with the Illini. He appeared in 24 games over two seasons but only logged double-digit minutes in one game.

Hamlin joins an Eastern Illinois squad that went 9-18 during the 2020-21 season. Best of luck to Hamlin as he continues his career!
