Illinois linebacker Jacob Hollins has entered the NCAA transfer portal and will explore other opportunities outside of Champaign, according to a report.

On Monday afternoon, Illini Inquirer reported that Hollins had entered his name in the transfer database and will look at other opportunities. An Illinois spokesperson confirmed the report.

As a true freshman last season, Hollins appeared in eight games, primarily on special teams. He ended the season with seven tackles.

“I want to thank Coach Smith for giving me the opportunity to come and play and continue my education for the University of Illinois. I also want to thank the academic staff for being there for me and helping me through this year. I appreciate and love all of my brothers,” Hollins wrote on Twitter. “Through the hard work, sweat, tears, and all of the laughs I will forever remember all of it. What that being said, I will be leaving the University of Illinois. I am officially in the transfer portal.”

Hollins is a former two-star recruit in Illinois’ 2018 recruiting class.
