Official Redbox Bowl gear has wrong name for Illinois' opponent
It is true that there are a lot of colleges and universities in California, but this is still an embarrassing mistake no matter the circumstances.
Illinois is off to bowl season this year after finishing with a 6-6 record. The Illini actually punched their ticket a while ago and were informed of the bowl destination on Sunday.
Lovie Smith’s squad will be heading out to Santa Clara, California for the Redbox Bowl. Illinois will face California in that game on Dec. 30.
There’s just one problem. The t-shirt for the Redbox Bowl had California’s name wrong:

UPDATE: we officially rejected this design. It was released without our approval. The University of California, Berkeley Athletics Department either goes by Cal or California, period. Despite this mishap, we look forward to taking on the Redbirds on Alcatraz later this month. 😉 https://t.co/h7bOoffYxr pic.twitter.com/zyTY3uy93Q

That’s definitely not a good look!
