One day after Tom Allen told reporters that Indiana had not received word from the NCAA on Jack Tuttle’s status for the 2019 season, the Hoosiers received some good news.

Indiana announced on Wednesday that the NCAA has granted Tuttle his waiver for immediate eligibility, meaning the former four-star quarterback will be able to participate in 2019. He will also have all four years of eligibility remaining with the Hoosiers.

The announcement comes as great news to Indiana, as Tuttle adds talent and depth to a quarterback room in need.

“We are very pleased for Jack and his family,” Allen said in a statement. “We look forward to him competing this fall. We also appreciate the NCAA’s assistance throughout this process.”

Tuttle will jump into competition with returning starter Peyton Ramsey and Michael Penix Jr. for the starting job. Tuttle is the highest-rated prospect the Hoosiers have ever brought to Bloomington.

Winning the starting job won’t be easy. Ramsey has seen plenty of action as the starter over the last two seasons and provides the offense with a nice dual-threat attack. Penix — who is still recovering from a season-ending injury — is another solid dual-threat option if healthy.

But with new offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer running the show, there are no allegiances or no favorites to take the No. 1 spot at Indiana. Even if Tuttle doesn’t win the job, he’ll provide plenty of competition this spring and into summer and fall.
