Former Iowa tight end George Kittle will soon have a new quarterback.

For now, it will still be Jimmy Garoppolo, but it’s only a matter of time until the reigns are turned over to No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance.

Earlier this week, Kittle gave his first impression of Lance’s talent during offseason workouts.

“I think Trey has all the attributes to be a very good, very special quarterback,” Kittle said on Good Morning Football, via 49ers.com. “He’s a freak athlete. I think really one of my favorite things about him right now just as a rookie, is that he takes risks. Like, he doesn’t complete all the passes that he throws, but he’s trying to fit into those small windows. And he’s just trying to throw it as hard as he can to get it to that wide receiver going through maybe the second window. And I think that’s really fun to see a guy take risks.”

Lance is coming off an impressive career at North Dakota State. He completed 208 of 318 passes (65.4 percent) for 2,947 yards and 30 touchdowns. He threw just one interception during his collegiate career.

He’s also a threat to run the ball. He carried it 192 times for 1,325 yards and 18 touchdowns for North Dakota State.

Kittle has never had a quarterback with this much athleticism during his NFL career. Still, he’s established himself as an elite NFL tight end.

Last season, Kittle caught 48 passes for 634 yards and two touchdowns in just eight games. He has 3,579 yards in the first four seasons of his NFL career.
