Iowa fans curious about the bowl destination for the Hawkeyes this winter may have received some insight from athletic director Gary Barta.

Tuesday night, Scott Dochterman, who covers Iowa for The Athletic, tweeted that the top two bowl options, according to Barta, are the Outback Bowl and Holiday Bowl. The AD has reportedly had “extensive conversations” with representatives from both bowls.

Selections for bowl games will be officially announced on Sunday, Dec. 2, a day after conference championship games are played.

Iowa has played in the Outback Bowl five times under head coach Kirk Ferentz, most recently in 2016. The Hawkeyes lost to Florida 30-3 in that matchup.

Under Ferentz, Iowa has not made a trip to the Holiday Bowl. The Hawkeyes last appearance in that game was in 1991 with Hayden Fry at the helm.

The Hawkeyes played BYU, a game that ended in a 13-13 tie.

Iowa finished the season 8-4, with a 5-4 mark in B1G play.
