Maryland holds off West Virginia to advance to 2nd round of NCAA Tournament
Maryland overcame a slow start to defeat West Virginia 67-65 in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday afternoon.
The Terps went nearly 8 minutes without scoring at one point in the 1st half, but quickly bounced back. By halftime, the Terps held a 32-30 lead over WVU.
This was a back-and-forth game throughout the 2nd half, but Maryland got the last laugh. Led by Julian Reese’s 17 points, the Terps had 4 players who scored in double figures.
West Virginia got a look at a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have won the game, but it was off the mark.

Maryland has now advanced in 3 consecutive NCAA Tournaments that it has participated in. However, the Terps have not reached the Sweet 16 since 2016.
Maryland will have an opportunity to snap that streak on Saturday. It will face the winner of Alabama vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the 2nd round.
