Maryland basketball has plenty of work to do to put together the 2022 recruiting class.

On Saturday, news broke that the Terrapins were losing their only commitment for the cycle. That came as point guard Paul Lewis announced on Twitter that his recruitment was reopening, indicating he was decommitting from Maryland.

Lewis is a 6-foot-1 point guard out of Arlington, Virginia. According to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, Lewis is the No. 24 point guard and No. 170 overall recruit nationally for the cycle. He is also the eighth overall recruit out of Virginia for 2022.

In addition to the offer from Maryland, Lewis holds offers from Georgetown, East Carolina, James Madison, Bryant, and Old Dominion.

According to Jeff Ermann with Inside MD Sports, the decision of Lewis was not entirely unexpected. Head coach Mark Turgeon is still pursuing other top guard options for the class of 2022. That includes J.J. Starling, a top-50 prospect and top-10 PG nationally for the cycle.
