Jim Harbaugh hasn’t been able to deliver a division title, a conference championship or a College Football Playoff berth to Ann Arbor in his five years at Michigan. And, according to 247Sports, it’s going to be incredibly difficult for the Wolverines to accomplish any of the three tasks in 2020.

247Sports’ Brad Crawford recently ranked the 10 toughest schedules in college football for the 2020 season, based on a very specific formula. Using the site’s “way-too-early Top 25 poll” and a point system that awards 5 points for an opponent ranked No. 1 through No. 5, 4 points for those ranked No. 6 through No. 10, etc., Michigan came in with the most difficult schedule out of the B1G.

The Wolverines ranked No. 8 overall. Indiana (No. 9) and Ohio State (No. 10) were also on the list. Seven teams from the SEC were included on this list, as well.

Here’s a look at some of the tougher opponents on Michigan’s 2020 schedule, along with their 2019 records:

  • Sept. 5: Washington Huskies (8-5)
  • Sept. 26: Wisconsin Badgers (10-4)
  • Oct. 3: Penn State (11-2)
  • Oct. 10: Michigan State (7-6)
  • Oct. 17: Minnesota Golden Gophers (11-2)
  • Nov. 21: Indiana Hoosiers (8-5)
  • Nov. 28: Ohio State Buckeyes (13-1)

That’s a pretty tough grind for the Wolverines, especially the stretch from Sept. 26 through Oct. 17. And Michigan’s season is bookended by trips to Washington and Ohio State, which will be tough road trips.

If Michigan plans to claim a division crown next season, it’s going to be a tough road.
