Add Adam Schefter to the growing list of media personalities who believes Jim Harbaugh is the right guy for the job at Michigan. It’s become a pretty popular opinion this week, despite the Wolverines’ 56-27 loss to Ohio State last Saturday.

Schefter joined ESPN’s Get Up! to talk about the rumors that Harbaugh could leave Michigan for the NFL — yes, they’re out there again. And while many do believe he’d be a good fit for the Carolina Panthers vacancy, Harbaugh has repeatedly denied any interest in making a return to pro football.

When asked about Harbaugh, Schefter was in full support of the Michigan head coach staying in Ann Arbor.

“It’s disappointing that they can’t beat Ohio State and it just feels like the program has fallen behind Ohio State. It’s just a notch below it,” Schefter said.

“I don’t get where all this [Jim Harbaugh should be fired] talk is coming from. It seems like — and maybe I’m wrong — it’s more fan based, more media based than fact based. Again, I don’t cover that team, I’m dealing with it on a daily basis, but all this conversation about moving on from Jim Harbaugh…the expectations are a little bit out of whack compared to what he’s done for that program. He shouldn’t be going anywhere. There’s not a coach anywhere, I believe, that’s better than Jim Harbaugh right now.”

Harbaugh is 47-17 in five seasons at Michigan and has the Wolverines on the verge of hitting the 10-win mark for the fourth time in five years. UM has been to a bowl game every year under Harbaugh.

But the 0-5 record against Ohio State continues to be a knock on the head coach. And, until he beats the Bucks, it’ll continue to be a storyline in Ann Arbor.

Below is Schefter’s full comment on the Harbaugh situation at Michigan.
