After spending his first two seasons in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, Jabrill Peppers is making a return to his hometown. And he couldn’t be more excited about it.

Peppers was apart of the blockbuster deal that sent Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to Cleveland, a move that surprised almost everyone across the league. With the move, the safety will now be able to perform in front of a crowd filled with fans from his home state.

“I was excited,” Peppers told reporters, according to 247Sports. “I get a chance to play football and do it in front of the home state. It was definitely an exhilarating feeling. [My family] is excited, they’re excited. It’s a much easier commute than Cleveland, Ohio. So, that works out.”

Peppers is a native of East Orange, New Jersey and played his college football at Michigan. Aside from a trip to Rutgers during his collegiate career and a visit to play the New York Jets with the Browns, the now third-year pro hasn’t had many opportunities to play in his home state.

Now, he’ll get that chance eight Sundays each year.

In two seasons with the Browns, Peppers registered 137 tackles and two interceptions. He’s also returned a total of 88 kickoff and punt returns for 1,125 yards.

While not everyone likes being traded, Peppers calls his arrival in New York a “blessing in disguise.”

“[The NFL] is a business, so nothing really can surprise you,” Peppers said. “It’s just more of a blessing in disguise and I feel as though God doesn’t make mistakes. If this is the path he wants me to walk down on, I’m going to embrace it. It was more of an exciting, exhilarating feeling. just a new road to go down, and I’m excited to go down it.”
