Jim Harbaugh is going to try and keep every tiny advantage he can ahead of Saturday’s rivalry game against Michigan State, even if it means withholding injury updates from the media.

During his weekly press conference on Monday, the Michigan head coach was asked for status updates on several players, including defensive lineman Rashan Gary and wide receiver Tarik Black. Every time an injury question was asked, Harbaugh shot it down quickly.

“I’m not talking about injuries,” Harbaugh said repeatedly.

Withholding injury information isn’t all that new for Harbaugh, though he has been more generous with his updates than in previous season. But he chose to keep the lid on that stuff this week, potentially because of the magnitude of Saturday’s matchup.

Harbaugh isn’t the only football coach to refuse to discuss injury updates. It’s become pretty common among coaches and some in the B1G won’t distribute the information. So it’s not as if Harbaugh is the bad guy in this situation.

It was interesting that he chose this week the be more tight-lipped, though.

Michigan and Michigan State will square off in East Lansing on Saturday afternoon. With both teams in the thick of the B1G East race, the winner gets bragging rights and a leg up in the division.
