Jon Runyan wasn’t too happy with the effort level of some of his teammates during Saturday’s loss against Wisconsin. The Michigan offensive lineman said as much on Monday while meeting with the media.

Runyan, who missed the first two games with an injury before returning to the field Saturday, told reporters that he felt the effort and execution could’ve been better in Madison. Though he didn’t name anyone in particular, you get the sense that Runyan had a few players in mind when he was making the comment.

“Not gonna call out anyone but yeah, I feel like there were some plays where effort could’ve been better,” Runyan said. “I think along with effort comes execution.”

The Michigan offensive lineman elaborated on that a bit in the video posted by Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News:

Michigan got punched in the mouth early against Wisconsin and never recovered. At one time, the Wolveriens trailed 35-0 before scoring a few second half touchdowns to close the gap to 35-14.

After the game, Harbaugh said his team was outcoached, outplayed and outprepared by the Badgers. During his Monday press conference, Harbaugh took full responsibility for not having the team ready to go.

Runyan seemed to be most unsatisfied with the lack of effort his teammates gave, at least during certain stages of the game. With five ranked opponents remaining on the schedule, that’s something that has to get cleaned up if Michigan wants to salvage the season.
