Michigan’s 2019 season may not have ended the way anyone expected, but the coaching staff is still reaping the rewards of a nine-win campaign and an appearance in the Citrus Bowl.

According to MLive.com, Michigan’s assistant coaches received nearly $200,000 in bonuses for a 9-4 record and a Citrus Bowl appearance. The Wolverines dropped the Jan. 1 game to Alabama 35-16 in Orlando.

Each assistant coach was eligible for a minimum of $16,000 in bonuses for hitting nine wins and playing in the Citrus Bowl. The minimum would have been doubled to $32,000, had the Wolverines defeated the Crimson Tide in the bowl game.

Here’s a breakdown of what each assistant received, per MLive.com:

Linebackers coach Anthony Campanile, who joined the Michigan coaching staff in January, and is reportedly on the move to the NFL, received a team-high $35,000 bonus for the Wolverines’ appearance in the Citrus Bowl. …Campanile was eligible to receive “a rate of two (2)-times the regular rate of assistant football coaches, or $35,000, whichever amount is higher.”

Similarly, first-year defensive line coach Shaun Nua, also hired in January, earned a $25,000 bonus for Michigan’s nine wins and bowl selection.

The rest of the assistant coaches, a list that includes offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, defensive coordinator Don Brown, running backs coach Jay Harbaugh, safeties coach Chris Partridge (who has since left for Ole Miss), offensive line coach Ed Warinner, cornerbacks coach Mike Zordich, tight ends coach Sherrone Moore and quarterbacks coach Ben McDaniels, received a $16,000 bonus for coaching in the Citrus Bowl.

Michigan was the preseason favorite to win the B1G East and compete for a conference championship, as well as a spot in the College Football Playoff. Losses to Wisconsin and Penn State derailed those hopes, though.

The Wolverines played much better in the second half of the year, beating the likes of Notre Dame, Michigan State, Maryland and Indiana in convincing fashion before dropping the regular season finale to Ohio State and the bowl game to Alabama.
