Franz Wagner is going from Ann Arbor to Orlando.

Wagner was selected with the No. 8 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft on Thursday night. He was picked by the Orlando Magic and was the first B1G player taken in this year’s draft.

Wagner spent two seasons at Michigan, playing under Juwan Howard. He started in all 55 games he played during his two years with the Wolverines, averaging 12 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2 assists per contest for his career.

In Michigan’s 2020-21 season, Wagner averaged 12.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. The Wolverines were regular season B1G champions and earned a trip to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.

At 6-foot-9, Wagner has the ability to stretch the floor and possesses the ability to drive to the basket while still knocking down the outside shot. He shot better than 47% from the floor and made more than 34% of his 3-point attempts.

Wagner is also able to defend multiple positions on the floor.

Along with Thursday being an incredible night for Wagner’s basketball future, it is also a special night for his family. His brother, Moe Wagner, is also currently a member of the Orlando Magic roster.

Moe Wagner also played college basketball at Michigan.
