The son of Michigan football coaching legend Bo Schembechler will go public with claims that he was among the individuals who were sexually abused by former team doctor Robert Anderson, according to multiple reports.

According to The Detroit Free Press, Matt Schembechler will be joined by his attorney for a news conference on Thursday. Two former Michigan football players will also join him. He says he’s prepared to talk about his father’s “failure to protect him and other athletes.”

The two former Michigan football players joining Matt Schembechler are Daniel Kwiatkowski and Gilvanni Johnson. Kwiatkowski was an offensive lineman from 1977-79 and Johnson was a wide receiver from 1982-86.

Matt Schembechler plans to “set the record straight regarding his own abuse.” He will also discuss what his father did and did not do in response to the knowledge of Anderson’s abuse.

Matt Schembechler was one of three sons that Bo’s first wife, Millie, had in a previous marriage. Bo adopted Matt after he and Millie were married.

From The Detroit Free Press:

The University of Michigan commissioned an investigation conducted by the law firm WilmerHale that concluded that Anderson’s misconduct was report “several times between 1978 and 1981,” but that a “senior University administrator…did not take appropriate action.”

Bo Schembechler died in 2006 and Anderson died in 2008.
