Sherrone Moore has been a part of Michigan’s staff since 2018 and has steadily added more and more duties to his plate along the way. Now, he heads into the 2023 season with his biggest role yet.

From 2018-20, Moore coached TEs for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines. The first big shift for Moore came prior to the 2021 season when he moved to OL coach while adding co-OC duties.

The results speak for themselves with the Wolverines winning back-to-back B1G titles and the offensive line capturing the Joe Moore Award each season. Following the firing of fellow co-OC Matt Weiss this offseason, Moore will be Michigan’s lone OC for the 2023 season.

Asked about the shakeup on Michigan’s staff, Moore reiterated he has a great group of coaches around him pulling toward the same goals. He also said he’s been working toward this opportunity his whole life and isn’t deterred by the increased responsibilities.

“I have an incredible group of guys that are all working in the same line, in the same vision to help us win championships, beat Ohio State, beat Michigan State, beat Penn State, win the B1G and the end goal,” Moore explained. “We’re all working on the same vision to do that.

“Is it a little bit more work? A little bit, but this is something I’ve prepared for my whole life. Motivated to do, and I’m just gonna continue to work and only keep my head down and do what I know best.”

Moore went on to say he’s living a dream and is having too much fun to label what he does every day as work:

“I don’t come in here and work at all,” said Moore. “It’s fun for me. This is just too fun for me. I live a dream right now. So I’m just gonna continue to grind as hard as I can and live out this dream that we’re living in.”

Outlook for Michigan’s offense in 2023

During the 2022 season, Michigan averaged 40.4 points per game, a mark that ranked 6th nationally to go with a top-10 defense. Moore has high expectations to hit yet again, but he has a talented group and a number of returners to achieve those goals.

With star quarterback JJ McCarthy returning, a healthy Donovan Edwards and Blake Corum on his road to recovery, there is little reason to doubt Michigan’s offense can be among the best in the country under Moore’s leadership. The Wolverines also helped replenish Moore’s o-line unit with some key veterans via the transfer portal.
