A craft beer inspired by late Michigan State punter Mike Sadler will soon be available in Michigan.

Jagged Mountain Brewery, a Colorado-based brewery, developed a beer earlier this year named Hey Diddle Diddle, honoring the Spartans punter. According to the Detroit Free Press, Atwater Brewery – out of Detroit – will make the beer available in Michigan and will start selling 12 oz. bottles and serving on tap in East Lansing this weekend. It will make its way to other cities later in September.

Sadler and Nebraska punter Sam Foltz died tragically in a car accident last summer.

The beer got its name from a fake punt play that was run by Sadler during Michigan State’s Rose Bowl season in 2013. The initial labeling from Jagged Mountain Brewery was decorated with roses and the No. 3 – Sadler’s jersey number – and was listed as “an All-American wheat ale.”

Sadler was named an All-American in 2013.

“To celebrate our 20th Anniversary, we wanted to do something to give back to our hometown market,” Atwater owner Mark Rieth told the Detroit Free Press. “The Hey Diddle Diddle beer was the perfect opportunity to produce a  balanced, effervescent wheat ale while honoring Mike’s legacy. He was more than just a great Spartan both on and off the field; he was a great person who was loved by everyone who knew him. This beer and his foundation can help to honor his legacy.”

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Michael Sadler Foundation.
