It’s been nearly a two year wait for Jayden Reed to show the world just what he’s got.

Reed had an All-American season his freshman year at Western Michigan, and transferred to Michigan State last offseason. With NCAA rules, he had to sit out a year, and with the delayed start to the 2020 season due to Covid-19, Reed was wound and ready for the opener against Rutgers.

And Reed made up for lost time, quickly.

During the Spartans 38-27 loss to Rutgers, Reed made his presence known to his future Big Ten opponents, pulling in 11 catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns, along with 65 return yards on four kickoff returns. His receiving effort made history, as he became the first MSU player to post over 100 receiving yards in his debut.’

There is work to do however, as he fumbled two of his catches, all part of a day that saw the Spartans turn the ball over seven times.

After the game, Reed was more focused on the work he needs to do rather than the positives of the day.

“I’m going to watch the film tonight, be very critical of myself and the rest of my team and move forward to next week,” Reed said.
