Mark Dantonio updates eligibility status of WR Jayden Reed
Michigan State is still hopeful to get Jayden Reed on the field this year, but as of now, he remains ineligible.
Reed is a sophomore wide receiver who transferred to the Spartans after one year at Western Michigan. He played in 12 games as a freshman and led the Broncos in catches (56), receiving yards (797), and touchdowns (8).

Head coach Mark Dantonio addressed Reed’s status on Thursday, and he is not eligible for 2019 at this point in time. According to Stephen Brooks with Spartan Tailgate, Dantonio said there are a couple of academic things that need to be sorted out before Reed’s petition is to be completed:
“We haven’t been able to petition him at this point,” Dantonio said. “There’s some things academically that we need to make sure that we’re able to get over the hump before we would be able to petition. So it remains to be seen if that can happen.”
The Spartans are returning some playmakers at receiver. However, that unit was one that dealt with multiple injuries in 2018. The team would no doubt love to have as much depth as possible there, especially with a player of Reed’s abilities.
