Mel Tucker has been without one of his leaders on defense as of late. He updated everyone on how Xavier Henderson is doing per Detroit Free Press’ Chris Solari.

Henderson left the first half of the season opener with an apparent leg injury. He had 96 total tackles, 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 interception last season for the Spartans.

Tucker stated that Henderson is able to do a lot more now since he is no longer hindered by crutches, and is now wearing a brace on his right knee.

“He’s able to get more involved now, because he’s more mobile,” said Tucker.

Michigan State’s defense has not been at its best since losing its leader. The Spartans’ defense has allowed at least 30 points or more in the last two games. It won’t get any easier with the Maryland offense up next on the schedule.

Tucker will need to figure out a way to get his defense back on track before it’s too late.
