Michigan State guard Cassius Winston has been honored with his outstanding play this season.
On Monday night, Winston was named the B1G Player of the Year after leading the Spartans to a B1G regular season title and a 25-6 record. He averaged 19 points and 7.6 assists per game this season, leading Michigan State in both categories.
Winston was forced to step up in the absence of Joshua Langford, another star guard for the Spartans. And when MSU lost Nick Ward with a hand injury, the guard became critical in the team’s success down the stretch,
Winston’s most impressive performance of the year came in Michigan State’s road win over Michigan. The junior played all 40 minutes and scored 27 points and dished eight assists in a 77-70 win over the Wolverines.
Michigan State enters the B1G Tournament as the No. 1 seed thanks in large part to Winston’s efforts this season. He’s also up for the Naismith Player of the Year Award.
