Michigan State has earned a second seed in the NCAA Tournament, but that’s not enough satisfy head coach Tom Izzo.

The Spartans were co-champions in the B1G in the regular season and won the conference tournament on Sunday, but that wasn’t enough to move into a No. 1 seed. Instead, Duke, Virginia, North Carolina and Gonzaga earned the four top seeds for the tournament.

Izzo wasn’t too pleased that Michigan State wasn’t given more consideration for one of the top seeds. He was asked if he thought his team got what it deserved from the selection committee.

“For a couple of years now, including in 2016, I don’t think we did,” Izzo said, according to MLive.com.

Over the last few years, the B1G Tournament champion has seemed to get snubbed in terms of seeding. It’s as if the outcome of the game doesn’t matter and a team can’t improve its seeding, regardless of who it plays or how well it plays.

Izzo echoed those same sentiments.

“Of course not, it’s already done,” Izzo said. “We’ve been saying that for years. I don’t think they do. I’m sure the committee will say they do.”

The other thing that frustrated Izzo was the committee’s lack of respect for the B1G’s push at scheduling 20 conference games this season. The conference did have eight teams make the field, most of any league in college basketball.

Still, Izzo doesn’t think scheduling was taken into account.

“The problem that I’m upset about is I don’t think they looked at the 20-game schedule, we played more than any other conference,” Izzo said.

Michigan State will play No. 15 seed Bradley in the Round of 64 in the NCAA Tournament in Des Moines.
