A former Minnesota offensive lineman is headed back to his home state and joining an FCS program.

Jack York, who entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal in February, has announced that he’ll be returning to Texas and has committed to Stephen F. Austin. Because he won’t be playing at the FBS level, he’ll be immediately eligible for the 2019 season.

York made his announcement via Twitter on Monday night.

“I’m extremely grateful for all the memories and friendships I made at the University of Minnesota and I wish everybody here the best,” York wrote. “I also want to thank every coach that reached out to me during this transfer process. With that being said I couldn’t be more excited about my future at SFA and the opportunity to play back close to home!”

York was a redshirt freshman for the Gophers in 2018 and didn’t see any action. The 6-foot-6, 300-pound lineman was a three-star prospect out of high school and was listed as one of the top 150 players out of Texas.

Stephen F. Austin finished the 2018 season with a 2-8 record and is a member of the Southland Conference.
