After finishing 2nd in the B1G west at 8-4, Minnesota is reportedly moving on from its offensive coordinator.

Mike Sanford Jr. is out as the Golden Gophers OC per a report from Zach Barnett of FootballScoop.com on Monday afternoon.

Before joining Minnesota as an OC, Sanford spent time at Utah State (2019) and Notre Dame (2015-2016) with similar roles. He was also the head coach at Western Kentucky from 2017 to 2018.

The Golden Gopher offense averaged the 9th-most yards per game in the B1G with 360.3 yards and the 7th-most points at 26 per game in 2021.

The running game was a bright spot for Minnesota in 2021. Despite the injuries to its running back core, Minnesota was 3rd in rushing yards per game with 193.8 in the B1G.

It’ll be interesting to see who P.J. Fleck decides to go with as his OC in 2022.
