Nebraska defeated Northern Illinois 44-8 last week. It was exactly the kind of victory that the Huskers needed.

Both sides of the ball played well, confidence rose and a 36-point win is a 36-point win.

On the final drive of the game, the Huskers sat quarterback Adrian Martinez for backup Noah Vedral. Understandably so, because the game was in hand. Vedral led Nebraska on a nine-play, 42-yard drive that ended in a touchdown to extend the 29-point lead into a 36-point one.

Martinez, of course, was happy for the backup:

It’s one thing to have a friend by your side during the ups in life. Martinez knows that. But when things are down, like when Nebraska lost a 17-0 lead to Colorado and ended up losing the game, having that friend there for you that knows what you’re going through can be critical.

Martinez has that in Vedral, and any time his backup can see success, Martinez will be right there to congratulate him.
