ESPN’s FPI predicts the outcome of college football games around the country. Duke-Northwestern is another B1G game that will be taking place in Week 2.

Northwestern is off to a 1-0 start after its thrilling comeback victory against Nebraska in Week 0. Duke also opened the regular season with a win, after shutting out Temple 30-0.

The Wildcats have struggled against the Blue Devils as of late. Duke has won the last 3 meetings (2017, 2018, 2021). Last year’s game was decided by a final score of 30-23 in favor of Duke. The all-time series is much closer, with Duke leading 11-10.

ESPN’s Football Power Index gives Northwestern a 69.9% chance to win against Duke. Northwestern will be looking to avenge last year’s 3-9 season.

Ryan Hilinksi and Evan Hull shined in the season opener. Hilinski had 314 yards passing with 2 touchdowns. Hilinski also made history against Nebraska, joining Clayton Thorson (455) as 1 of 2 Northwestern quarterbacks to throw for 300 yards passing in game. Hull controlled the ground game with 119 yards rushing and 1 touchdown.

The goal this season for Pat Fitzgerald will be to return to a bowl game. Northwestern last competed against Auburn in the Citrus Bowl in 2020. The Wildcats went on to win 35-19.

Northwestern plays Duke on Sept. 10 at noon ET on FS1.
