Here's what Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald said after blowout loss to Nebraska
Last night, Northwestern played its first B1G game since losing to Michigan State 38-21 in Week 1. It was more of the same, as Northwestern had its worst loss of the season on the road in Lincoln as the Wildcats lost to Nebraska 56-7.
The defense of Northwestern allowed three touchdowns in the first quarter from dual-threat quarterback Adrian Martinez. They went into halftime down 35-7 to Nebraska as they were out-gained in total yards accounted for 398-to-187.
Northwestern finished the game with only 293 total yards of offense and 37 yards from the rushing game. The defense of Northwestern allowed 657 total yards of offense from Nebraska with 427 of them coming from the rushing game.
This was one of the Wildcats’ worst conference losses with Pat Fitzgerald as head coach. Northwestern continues to show a lack of consistency on both sides of the ball.
Last year, Northwestern finished with an overall record of 7-2 including a 35-19 win over Auburn in the 2020 Citrus Bowl.
Here’s what Fitzgerald said in his post-game press conference:
