WATCH: Northwestern jokingly tweets out date in which starting QB will be announced
Northwestern won the Big Ten West division in 2018 with an impressive 8-1 record in conference.
No other team came close. Only Wisconsin and Purdue finished 5-4, a full three games behind the Wildcats. Despite that, coming into 2019, nobody seems to be picking the reigning B1G West champs to repeat.

Maybe part of the reason is because QB Clayton Thorson graduated and left for the NFL. After all, the signal-caller spot is an important one. However, many believe that a potentially more talented QB may be replacing the current NFL gunslinger in former 5-star prospect Hunter Johnson.
Johnson, who redshirted a season ago, transferred from Clemson. Now, it may be his time to shine. Although, we don’t know who the QB1 in Evanston is just yet. That hasn’t been announced.
On Friday, however, Northwestern’s Twitter account released the date as to when that information would come out:
One of these 🔥flamethrowers🔥 will start the opener at QB.
Which one? You’ll find out August 31.

This isn’t what we were hoping for. Of course, we will find out if Johnson or TJ Green — a senior — will be the starter on Aug. 31. That is the date in which Northwestern begins its season against Stanford on the road.
Thanks for the tease, Wildcat Twitter.
