Ohio State will always recruit at a high level. It happened under Jim Tressel, improved under Urban Meyer and somehow has gotten even more impressive under Ryan Day.

A recent breakdown of the players enrolling at Ohio State in 2021 breaks down just how dominant the Buckeyes have been on the recruiting front. FOX’s R.J. Young did a lot of the work.

Based on the 247Sports Composite rankings, Ohio State has welcomed the top-ranked player at four position groups to Columbus at some point in 2021, either as an early enrollee or in the summer. The most recent addition was Quinn Ewers, the 5-star quarterback who decided to skip his senior year of high school to join the Buckeyes.

That means Ohio State is bringing to campus the following:

  • 2021 No. 1 wide receiver: Emeka Egbuka
  • 2021 No. 1 running back: TreVeyon Henderson
  • 2021 No. 1 interior offensive lineman: Donovan Jackson
  • 2022 No. 1 quarterback: Quinn Ewers

Young also put the No. 1 defensive lineman on the list, but that’s no longer true. However, Ohio State does have two of the Top 3 defensive linemen in the class on campus — J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer.

That’s a pretty impressive group.

Ohio State’s 2021 recruiting class finished No. 2 nationally and No. 1 in the B1G. The Buckeyes owned the country’s top-ranked class of 2022, but with Ewers reclassifying, they dropped down to No. 3, behind Penn State and Alabama.
