FOX Sports analyst Urban Meyer had some high praise for Clemson quarterback and Heisman Trophy favorite, Trevor Lawrence.

Discussing the possibility of another Alabama-Clemson matchup in the College Football Playoff, Meyer broke down why it all hinges on the sophomore.

“It’s very hard to repeat. Once you win it, everything changes.

“I think Dabo Swinney, as long as he can keep that team together…the quarterback is the best quarterback in college football, ever. But what about the rest of the team? Are they going to stay focused and keep swinging like they did last year?”

A few of Meyer’s own pupils – Tim Tebow, J.T. Barrett, Dwayne Haskins – rank among the game’s most prolific quarterbacks.

For his part, Lawrence was about as impressive as possible in his debut season. Starting the final 11 games of the season, he helped guide Clemson to a 15-0 record and the program’s third national championship. He completed 65.1% (259-398) of his passes for 3,280 yards, 30 TD and just four interceptions.

Announcing his retirement as Ohio State’s head coach following last season’s Rose Bowl victory over the Washington Huskies, Meyer is now serving as an assistant athletic director at the school, in addition to his duties with FOX Sports.

Stepping up into the full-time head coaching role following his 3-0 debut as the interim in 2018, former offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ryan Day named sophomore Justin Fields the starter for Buckeyes.

Playing in 12 games for the Georgia Bulldogs last season, Fields transferred to Ohio State in January and was granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA. The No. 5 Buckeyes will face FAU at Ohio Stadium on Saturday at 12:00PM ET to begin their season.
