Justin Fields "light years ahead" of where Ryan Day expected
Ranked No. 6 in America and fresh off a 51-10 trashing of the Indiana Hoosiers, the Ohio State Buckeyes are clicking on all cylinders.
While the level of competition – FAU, Cincinnati, Indiana – leaves something to be desired, sophomore quarterback Justin Fields has been exceptional. Completing 70.3% (52-74) of his passes, Fields has thrown nine touchdowns and zero interceptions.
This level of efficiency and ball security led to the Kennesaw, Georgia native receiving high praise from head coach Ryan Day.

“Where he is right now is light years ahead of where I thought he would be.” – Ryan Day on Justin Fields

Bill Rabinowitz, Buckeye beat writer for The Columbus Dispatch, offered some further comments from Day on Fields:
Day on Fields being light years ahead of where he expected: "When someone with that little experience comes to play QB at Ohio State, there's a lot to handle and he's handle them." Said he'll learn that expectations and pressure will continue to grow.

A five-star recruit, Fields was the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the 2018 class, per the 247Sports Composite.
Originally enrolling at the University of Georgia, he saw action in 12 games as Jake Fromm’s backup in 2018. Even with this limited playing time, Fields was responsible for eight touchdowns as a freshman.
With Fromm only a junior, Fields made the decision to leave and seek immediate playing time. He transferred to Ohio State in January and received a waiver for immediate eligibility from the NCAA in February.
