Kevin Wilson will soon be leading a new program as head coach. For now, he intends to remain with Ohio State through the College Football Playoff.

Wilson was officially introduced as Tulsa’s head coach Tuesday after previously serving the past 5 seasons on Ohio State’s staff. During his introductory press conference, Wilson told reporters that he would remain with the Buckeyes as their offensive coordinator through the postseason, stating it was his “obligation” to help the school win a national title.

Wilson, 61, said that he wasn’t “necessarily chasing jobs” but was itching to lead and build a program if the right opportunity presented itself. When Tulsa came calling, Wilson said it was the “right fit” for both sides.

Prior to becoming head coach at Indiana in 2011, Wilson spent 8 seasons as Oklahoma’s offensive coordinator under Bob Stoops from 2002-10. During his 5 seasons with the Hoosiers, Wilson compiled a 26-47 overall record.

The Buckeyes’ offense has been 1 of college football’s most consistent units since Wilson took over as OC in 2017. In 2022, Ohio State ranked 2nd in scoring (44.5 points per game), 14th in passing (307 yards per game), 28th in rushing (198.5 yards per game), and 22nd on 3rd-down conversions (46.1%). Quarterback C.J. Stroud also became a back-to-back Heisman finalist following his 2 stellar seasons commanding the huddle.

The No. 4 Buckeyes will face No. 1 Georgia in the Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. on Dec. 31. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. E.T. on ESPN.
