Ohio State’s basketball season has come to an end.

The Buckeyes came up short on Sunday night, falling 74-59 to Houston in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Ohio State had enough in the tank to pull off the first round upset over six seed Iowa State, but wasn’t able to knock off No. 3 seed Houston.

It was a back-and-forth contest to start, with a couple of lead changes through the first 12 minutes of the game. Ohio State took a 24-21 lead midway through the half, but an 18-7 run from Houston to close out the half gave the Cougars a 39-31 advantage entering the locker room.

Ohio State lingered around for most of the second half, but wasn’t ever able to string together more than a few baskets and give Houston a run for its money. As the game progressed, the Cougars slowly pulled away, taking a double-digit lead with less than five minutes to play.

Houston was able to knock down key free throws down the stretch put the game on ice.

Three Buckeyes reached double figures for the game, led by senior C.J. Jackson, who scored 18 on 7-of-15 shooting. Kaleb Wesson pitched in with 15 ad Keyshawn Woods added 10. Ohio State also had 14 turnovers to Houston’s six.

Ohio State ends the year with a 20-15 record and won one game in the B1G and NCAA tournaments.
