If Heisman voters are honest, they likely cannot point to a player who has been more impressive than Chase Young this season.

The star defensive end for the Buckeyes already has 15.5 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks. If that’s not enough, he’s forced five fumbles and blocked a field goal, proving he can change games in an instant.

He saved his best body of work for a big-time showdown against Wisconsin. Against the Badgers, Young put up five tackles for loss, four sacks, and forced two fumbles. That performance thrust him into the national spotlight as people took notice of his Heisman candidacy.

During a Monday appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, Pat Forde with Yahoo! Sports was asked if he would have Young on his Heisman list. He admitted he would, pointing out Young has been Ohio State’s best player this season:

“Sure. He’s the best player on that team. Justin Fields has been great, JK Dobbins has been great, but he has been the best player,” explained Forde. “He’s just annihilating teams. What he did to Wisconsin was one of the more dominant defensive performances I’ve seen.

“I’ve been trying to come up with a comp. He’s thicker in the lower body and longer than a Von Miller. He’s almost more like a Julius Peppers…He’s 6-foot-6 and he’s fast, but he’s got the base to withstand blocking…If you don’t need a QB, I would think you’re taking Chase Young first in the draft.”

Eisen went on to label Young as “Von Miller game in Julius Peppers’ body.” Peppers recently wrapped up a 17-year NFL career with 159.5 career sacks while Miller continues to be one of the most consistent pass rushers with 102.0 career sacks.
