Quinn Ewers’ high school coach has issued a statement following the news that he will leave high school early and enroll at Ohio State this fall.

The statement seemed to be supportive of Ewers’ decision, and acknowledged that he will be able to make money through endorsement deals while with the Buckeyes.

“The entire Dragon community will greatly miss Quinn on and off the field. He is an incredible young man who exemplifies what it means to be a Dragon — inspiring excellence in his teammates and modeling what excellence looks like in the classroom and on the field,” Southlake Carroll coach Riley Dodge wrote in-part.

Ewers also released a statement on Monday, confirming reports about his imminent arrival at Ohio State. He said it wasn’t “just a financial decision” but did acknowledge the impact of new Name, Image and Likeness legislation.

Texas laws would have prevented Ewers from signing endorsement deals while continuing to play high school football.

Ewers is now the No. 1 overall player in the class of 2021, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He joins Kyle McCord as 5-star quarterbacks in the class of 2021 for Ohio State.

Ohio State’s fall camp begins on August 4.
