The Saints do have a backup with previous NFL starting experience in Teddy Bridgewater, but losing Brees is a big loss and takes a hit on the team’s depth at the position. In order to add back a bit of depth, the Saints are reportedly signing former Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett to their practice squad.

Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network shared the report:
J.T. Barrett signed with the #Saints out of Ohio State and has had several other stints on their p-squad. They also worked out former #Colts QB Phillip Walker and former #Cardinals QB Chad Kanoff.

Barrett has seen preseason action with the Saints and looked good at times when playing. It obviously remains a long shot for Barrett to see meaningful snaps in the NFL this season, but it is good to see he is at least on New Orleans’ radar moving forward.
