The Urban Meyer-to-USC chatter has only picked up steam this season. With Clay Helton’s future in question and Meyer open to a potential return to the coaching ranks, many believe he’s the top candidate to become the next leader of the Trojans.

If USC’s president has a say in the matter — which she definitely would — that won’t be the case. At least according to one report.

College football insider Brook Melchior from Sports by Brooks says USC President Carol Folt has absolutely no interest in bringing Meyer to Los Angeles. He made the comment in a live podcast on FanCred.

“In the last two days, I’ve been canvasing my sources locally here in Los Angeles and I’ve been told Folt wants nothing to do with Urban Meyer,” Melchior said. “Does that mean he won’t be hired? At a school that has Al Cowlings name on one of the dormitories, OJ Simpson’s driver in the Bronco…why is his name on a dorm? His name is on the dorm because USC booster Wayne Hughes said to put it on there.

“Wayne Hughes has given USC upwards of almost $400 million and he’s done it almost anonymously. Clay Helton’s future hangs in the balance week to week, he could be fired at any moment.”

So, there could be a potential power struggle in Los Angeles from the sound of things. And it could create an interesting talking point for the remainder of the college football season.

USC is 2-1 this season following an ugly 30-27 overtime loss to BYU. This week, the Trojans host No. 10 Utah. If they drop the contest to the Utes, Helton will be under even more scrutiny with a 2-2 record.
